COBRA requires that most employers sponsoring group health plans offer employees and their families the opportunity for a temporary extension of health coverage (called continuation coverage; usually at least 18 months) in certain instances where coverage under the employee’s plan would otherwise end. You must apply within 60 days of you or your spouse ending their job. You must pay the monthly premium for it, but by law it is your right to be covered by the health insurance policy you started with
